Semester Theme
For my theme I want to focus on pattern and pattern design. I have been looking at a lot of sashiko and traditional japanese patterns as well as the overlap in designs formed by knitting, needlepoint, crochet, embroidery and mathematical tessellations. I would like to focus on analyzing the use of line in these art forms and then combine and modify them into new designs.
Another possibility
In exploring some test samples of plique a jour, I wonder if it would be more effective to scale down the whole project and to creat a small dome that is 100% plique-a-jour. Below is a picture of the smape and amount of plique-a-jour i'm describing. The disign would be much more geometric and abstract
Plique-a-jour
I want to explore plique-a-jour on a curved surface. This will be quite the challenge but I think it will work out one way or another.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass.

I find this technique captivating and the results are just so beautiful.
I am striving to complete a 6" raised vesel with about a half of plique-a-jour around the rim.
